Just A Gripe

My post today is a gripe, and I apologize. But I have to say this because it bothers me.

I am really tired of our local media. Are they all idiots? Are they even educated in journalism? Did they get their jobs by any means other than experience and performance?

I read our local newspaper and am amazed at how the writers cannot put together a coherent sentence. The sentences they do put together are not even grammatically correct. They do not make sense. You can find more errors than correct items. Read it, find out for yourself.

Our local television news is even worse. There is a story that is currently repeated every 30 minutes (during this mornings Today Show) that is about a local cyber cafe. The cafe was shut down after it was found out that it was dealing in illegal gambling.

There was more than internet surfing going on at a local, so called "cyber cafe." The Jefferson County Sheriff's office raided the Nederland Internet Cafe shortly after 3:00p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Authorities are in the process of Seizing 31 computers from the business. Meanwhile, a search is underway at a Nederland home. Chief Darrell Bush says they are looking for cash and financial records there. Two men were arrested in the raids. Several agencies helped with the operation. Officials say what happened Wednesday is the culmination of a two month long undercover operation.

Does this tell you that gambling was involved? No. And they read this exact copy on the tv a zillion times this morning.

Just a little perturbing. I pride myself on grammer and spelling, so this really bothers me. It also bothers me that people put themselves out there as informed and cannot get a coherent sentence out.

Speaking of which, go here:

http://www.kfdm.com/news/burger_26838___article.html/indefinitely_krystal.html

The first and last paragraphs boggle the mind.

First, they don't even have the name of the establishment right.

Then they end the article with a request to take a poll on the best chicken sandwich in town (which, of course, is entirely relevant to the closing of the teeny tiny burger joint in town, right?).

Try to take the poll. I dare you!
