Dancing With Whiney Babies

Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff showed absolutely no class last night after their loss on Dancing With The Stars. I am not sure what they thought was going on, but just like any other call in and vote show, it boils down to who the people like best. Yes, that is a popularity contest.

Emmitt Smith is a 3-time Super Bowl champion and MVP and is known far and wide for these achievements. The Super Bowl is watched by millions over the world and that makes him a very well known person. Mario Lopez has been on a sappy teen comedy, host of a show on Animal Planet and had a short role recently on The Bold and The Beautiful. How many people really know who he is? I know that my in-laws had never heard of him before. That is probably true of many who watched the show. How do you beat the MVP when people don't know you?

That said, maybe Emmitt wasn't the best dancer of the season. But wasn't this about taking people, STARS, who don't dance as a rule and making them dancers. They may not be the best when they finish, but they have learned and worked hard and deserve whatever they recieve at the end of it. If that is the trophy, so be it. Most of the time, it is just a better understanding of what ballroom dancing is.

Karina was upset, understandably, but she needed to show a little more class than she did. Neither she nor Mario said congratulations to Emmitt and Cheryl, and that is a sad statement of the entitlement that people their age feel they have. That entire generation feel that they are entitled just because they show up. They don't feel the need to work for what they want.

I have read some of the comments about this show, and for those who say they will never watch again - GET OVER IT! IT WAS JUST A TV SHOW! How about getting that riled up about what is happening in Iraq? How about getting that riled up about the mess President Bush has made in this country? What about the kids who are hurt every day because they are abused? What about the millions who are dying around the world due to genocide? Find something else to be that passionate about. It's over and Emmitt won.
