Gates is an old family friend of the Bushes. That doesn't surprise me at all.
What worries me now is that he is close ideologically to Dick Cheney. Great. That's all we need. Another Cheney lap dog and leftover from the Sr. Bush presidency.
Why can't W find a new person to nominate? Why are all his nominees from his father's administration? Shows he doesn't have a original idea as to who should be around him. Let's look at all the people around him:
Dick Cheney - Sec of Def under Bush, Sr
Andrew Card - Sec of Trans under Bush, Sr.
Colin Powell - Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff under Bush, Sr.
Then only one of those I have any respect for is Powell.
Another yes man. That we don't need.
