Secretary of State Condolezza Rice met with Syria's foreign minister today at a summit in Egypt. This meeting was held behind closed doors and the secretary did not disclose any of the subject of that meeting with the press.
Wasn't it just a month or so ago that the Bush administration was blasting Speaker Pelosi for meeting with the Syrian government? Weren't they so dead set against talking with the Syrians? What happened?
I have a pretty good guess as to what prompted this meeting: They were shown up by the Democratic leadership and couldn't stand it. They had to get in this talk so that when anything good happens, they can take the glory for it.
Imagine that!

You are absolutely right; Bush did blast Pelosi for talking with Syria. He called her visit, “unproductive”. For some reason Bush thinks talking with your enemies is a bad idea. He still thinks he is in grade school and the world is a sort of a recess.
In fact, most fundamentalists believe negotiation to be for the weak. Their motto is “my way or the highway.” Yet they don’t realize that throughout history many problems have been solved through communication, negotiation and compromise.
I still do not know how this cretin got elected twice.
